Cochlear Implant allowing easier access to MRIs and expanded connectivity to Android™ smartphones approved by the FDA

In June 2019, the US Food and Drug Administration approved the Nucleus® Profile™ Plus Implant that can now allow for easier access to 1.5 and 3.0 Tesla (T) MRI scans without the need to remove the internal magnet or wear a head wrap.1 The Nucleus Profile Plus Implant is built on Cochlear's unrivaled cochlear implant reliability record of the Profile Implant and the entire Cochlear Nuchleus implant portfolio.2-4

The FDA also approved direct streaming from Android phones* to the Nucleus 7 Sound Processor without intermediary devices or attachments.** This update follows the 2017 innovation of the Nucleus 7 Sound Processor being “the world’s first Made for iPhone cochlear implant sound processor”.5 The Nucleus 7 Sound Processor’s expanded connectivity features for Android will be commercially available this fall across the U.S. and Canada through a simple firmware update.
